I am delighted that you are interested in The Crypt School for your child's future education. The Crypt School has been educating young people since 1539, offering them all a wonderful space in which they can make friends, learn about their world, develop key skills and personal qualities, acquire strong academic qualifications and then progress with confidence on into their adult lives.
We are an outstanding co-educational grammar school which places the child at the heart of all that we do and have a strong reputation as a caring and friendly school, a school in which all students can thrive.
Learning is at the very heart of school life, and all students are supported and inspired to achieve high academic standards. Students leave the School with outstanding exam results and progress onto university, work-place apprenticeships and employment with the resilience, knowledge and understanding that a Crypt education provides.
The pastoral care provided at The Crypt is exceptional and we have developed a caring and supportive environment where students grow in confidence, show respect for each other, as well as for their teachers and for other adults within the school community, enjoy learning, and are valued as individuals. This positive, caring ethos is the foundation for our students’ academic success.
Crypt students also develop the knowledge and understanding, as well as a set values which enables them to contribute richly to both their school and wider society. Our broad and balanced curriculum is supported by a citizenship education programme allows all young people to explore their world, as well as often difficult and demanding issues in a safe and understanding environment. Our careers programme seeks to equip all our young people with the knowledge and understanding of the world of further learning and work so they can confidently take their place in the wider world after they leave school.

Beyond the classroom, there is much for all students to become involved in: opportunities for involvement in sport, drama, art and music are exceptional and at each stage in a young person’s journey through the School, we encourage and provide opportunities for them to develop their skills and personal qualities – through being form captains and sports leaders, members of the School Parliament, and prefects and members of the VI Form Student Executive Committee at the end of their journey through the school. Trips and visits occur for each year group and from Year 9, students can also participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
I share with staff and students a real pride in our school. It is a privilege and pleasure to work here and play a part in shaping the lives of our young people. Please do come and visit us on one of our open days, or at any other time by appointment. We will be delighted to show you around and answer any questions which you may have. I look forward to meeting you in due course.
