The Crypt School - A Level Results 2023

"The Crypt School has achieved an outstanding set of A Level results and everyone can be very proud indeed of the achievement of our Year 13 students. Almost 70% of grades were awarded at either A*, A or B (nearly 40% A*- A) with over 90% of grades awarded at A*-C.  These results are better than those achieved in 2022, when grading was still affected by the pandemic, and better than those achieved by the School in 2019.  Given the decline in top grades nationally, these results are most impressive indeed.

Students and staff, as well as our supportive families at home, deserve great praise for the hard work, support and commitment that has underpinned these results.  Students at the School worked very hard indeed over the full two years of study and, with the outstanding teaching and pastoral support provided to them by the School, they have excelled.  The A Level students of 2023 suffered significantly during the pandemic: they missed sitting their GCSE exams in 2021, and had a significant period of time out of school when they were in Years 10 and 11, which makes these outstanding results even more impressive.  Particular congratulations to Thomas Usmar, Jacob Norton, Louis Powles and Rostom McNiven for achieving 3 A*s in their A levels.

The School is also delighted with this year's set of university destinations, including leading Russell group universities such as Oxford; we are equally pleased to see a very good number of students securing leading apprenticeships with local and national companies that combine work with studying for a degree. We offer all our leavers the very best wishes for their futures, and ask that they keep in touch with their future achievements.
These outstanding A Level results send out a very strong signal to those students in Year 11 who are coming to The Crypt to study for their A Levels: you too can achieve highly in our outstanding sixth form.”

The Crypt School GCSE Results 2023

I was delighted to celebrate a very strong set of GCSE results with our Year 11 students, their families and teachers earlier today. Our first ever coeducational Year 11 cohort of students achieved very highly, with over 18% of grades awarded at grade 9, 36% at grades 9 and 8 and 82% at grades 9-6.

These results were on par with the outstanding results the School achieved in 2019, the best comparable data set available.  Given that the students in Year 11 were adversely affected by the Covid closure of schools and subsequent disruption to their education, these outcomes are very impressive indeed.

The results are a tribute to each student’s hard work and commitment across their GCSE courses, and of their teacher's and other school staff’s support and care for them, which helped enable this success.

With over 170 students from both The Crypt School’s Year 11, as well as students from a wide variety of other local schools and colleges now joining our outstanding sixth form, we now look forward to supporting them all across their sixth form studies. I know they will all flourish in our welcoming, inclusive and aspirational environment.

Given the uneven impact of the pandemic on school and college performance data, the government has said you should not make direct comparisons between the performance data for one school or college and another, or to data from previous years.
