Provision: The standard of school sport is very high, and the school has been represented at national level in a variety of activities, most recently at Rugby, Gymnastics, Archery and Skiing. Many pupils have also gained County or District honours. However, not every boy can be a proficient sportsman, but all are encouraged to make a genuine effort to achieve their individual potential.
Sports: Physical Education and Games form an essential and integral part of the broad education of our young students. From years 7 to 11 all boys have a one hour PE lesson and a one hour games lesson each week. All boys in Year 7 play Rugby, Cricket & Athletic during Games. Basketball, Gymnastics, Outdoor & Adventurous Activities plus a new Physical Literacy module make up the rest of the PE lessons.
In years 8 and 9 boys have the opportunity to participate in the additional activities
of Cross-
The school has enjoyed team successes in a variety of sports over recent years. In
Athletics we have been District Athletics Champions, finished 3rd at the years 7
& 8 ESAA South West championships. We have had finalists in the City Football Cup
as well as in the HSBC Rugby cup. Cricket success is developing year on year with
the School winning the U15 County Championships in recent years. We have been winners
at District level for many years but 2009 brought a first with all our years 7 -
The department has led many tours over recent years, most recently to Canada in 2008. The current year 9 & year 11 teams are now preparing for our first major Cricket tour to Barbados in 2011.
Sports
Past Rugby Successes: The school has toured Canada twice and returned unbeaten . In recent seasons we have had representation in the England U18 XV, U18 A XV, South West U18 XV as well as regular representation in the county U18 and U16 squads. Several boys represented the U16’s last season.
