The Crypt School’s Special Educational Needs Policy
Objectives
In addition to the stated aims of The Crypt School the Special Needs Policy will identify and address the Special Educational Needs of all its pupils. We aim to see that all pupils reach their potential in all aspects of the curriculum by ensuring that there is an efficient system in place that works within the Code of Practice on Special Needs.
External agencies will be involved as guided by the Code of Practice.
Staffing
Two senior pastoral staff have been designated responsibility for special needs. The Assistant Head 11-13 acts as SENCO for Key Stage 3 and the Assistant Head 14-19 acts as SENCO for Key Stages 4 and 5. The school works with the LEA and Psychological service to ensure that pupils’ entitlement to SEN support is met.
Identification, Assessment and Provision
A Register of pupils is maintained to monitor and review the progress of, and provision for the pupils. Termly assessments and other expressions of staff concerns are used to identify pupils with special needs. Departments have designated staff with SEN responsibilities to keep procedures under review so that we work within the Code of Practice to support these needs to best effect.
