Crypt: Gloucester's only Science School

In 2003, the Crypt School was granted Specialist Status in Science. The Crypt School remains Gloucester’s only Specialist Science School.

Mission Statement and Science College Objectives

Our mission as a Science College is for:

  • the pupils in our partner schools to be excited by the prospect of studying science at the Crypt,
  • our pupils to be enthused by the science they are studying,
  • our pupils to be enabled to succeed and pursue science as far as they want to and are able to.

As a Science College we will continue to develop our own vision of education with character – an emphasis on the individual with access to a flexible and responsive curriculum and the education of the whole person through high quality of curriculum enhancement and enrichment activities. We wish to foster a learning community where new teaching technologies are embraced and independent learning is encouraged and to advance a “can do” ethos where self-esteem is promoted and high expectations are matched by high aspirations. These aims will be achieved through the following objectives:

SA1: To raise standards of achievement in Science and Maths through the increased quality of teaching and learning.

SA2: To extend curricular opportunities in Science and Maths, including subject enrichment areas, out of hours learning, industry/business links and the relationship between specialist subjects.

SA3: To increase take-up and interest in specialist subject courses, particularly post-16.

CA1:  Provide high quality learning opportunities in the specialist subjects and higher standards through sharing specialist facilities and resources with partner schools and developing and disseminating good practice.

CA2: Provide high quality learning opportunities through the specialist subjects for members of, and groups within, the school’s wider community, including local business.
