Crypt School - ethos

All pupils in the school are placed in the care of form tutors who have the over-all responsibility for their welfare, and who are the first point of contact and correspondence in all matters relating to pupils in the school.

Form Tutors are supported by Heads of Year who have specific responsibility for overseeing the pastoral needs of the pupils in their year group. Form time is set aside each week to enable form tutors to monitor the progress of pupils and parents are encouraged to contact the school immediately about matters of concern.

Time will always be found for parents who feel the need for urgent and immediate discussion. Pupils also have access to a trained counsellor and the school nurse who run drop in sessions.

What is PLP ? Positive Learning Plus

“PLP” is The Crypt School’s new approach towards teaching and managing pupils.  The scheme is built upon staff using the language of choice, encouraging pupils to take responsibility and make the best decision with regard to their own and others’ learning.  PLP encourages staff to praise success, and reward good behaviour and learning.

The scheme is based around:

• Praise and acknowledgement for pupils making good choices• Clear rules, based around the learning environment (pupil based)• Clear consequences for pupils making poor choices

Aims of the scheme

1. Improve pupil’s motivation and attitude towards learning.

2. Improve pupil’s behaviour, and further develop respect for the learning environment.

3. To create a positive and productive learning environment where pupils and staff work together with shared visions and values.

REWARDS

As one aspect of PLP, we have reviewed and improved our pupil rewards systems. 

The new reward system started this term, and involves pupils earning Merits and Praise Cards.  The merits count towards the House Cups presented each term and both the merits and name cards allow pupils to enter the termly raffle draw involving cash prizes!!
