Arts Week

For one week at the end of June/beginning of July we suspend the normal curriculum and make extra time for students to explore a theme through Art, Dance, Drama and Music.  There is be a special timetable, staffing & rooming for the week, with visiting professionals from the different arts giving students an exciting insight outside of their normal experience.

Past activities have included:

•    Chinese lion dancing in costume
•    Playing Balinese gamelan music on traditional instruments
•    Making leaf sculptures out of willow and paper
•    African drumming
•    Dramatic improvisation on different themes
•    Capoeira dance fighting
•    Painting and studding a giant textured outdoor tree mural

Other departments are also set up short projects during the week, designing games, making rockets and trebuchets, constructing geometric patterns and manufacturing instruments.

The week creates an opportunity for school trips without affecting timetabled lessons.  During Arts Week, we run trips to:

•    Goodrich Castle (Y7 History)
•    Woodchester Mansion (Y7 English)
•    Le Chateau de Broutel (Y7 French)
•    Correze (Y9 PE)
